July 18, 2008 Brad Loyet, Derek King & Marty Hiser take wins at Macon Speedway!
The POWRi schedule, the country's fastest
fifth mile usually sends some drivers home with a couple of dents.
Last year's POWRi Midget champion, Brad Loyet, won the Dana Godrey Memorial
at Macon Speedway Saturday night. Loyet showed why he's one of the best,
passing the only two cars in front of him in the first 3 laps.
"I talked to John Godfrey right before we came out. He said he wanted to see
me down here. I'm glad we could do it for him." Loyet said.
Dereck King had a chance to win on the final restart. King slid his car up
in front of Loyet. But the veteran Loyet passed him right back and drove on
to victory.
King did, however, take the checkered flag in the Micros. King’s car ran
smooth and fast around the high side of the racetrack. Second and third
place finishers Ryan Langston and Ryan Guyett could only watch as King
pulled away on every restart.
Veteran racer Marty Hiser had his car tuned just right in the BARBECK
Communications Modified feature, winning his first race of the season. Hiser
flew through lapped traffic that held up second place finisher Jeremy
Nichols.
"I want to give these guys credit. You could just show them a door, and
they'd let you go. It had to be our night." Hiser said.
Nichols was the favorite coming off a strong showing in his heat race, but
couldn't find the speed to run down Hiser on his surprising run. Nichols
finished two spots ahead of Jim Leka, edging him closer to an unprecedented
championship in his first year of Modified racing.
Best fan in the stand driver Mark Tullis picked Donna Miller as his best
fan, earning them both a $100 prize.
